From 2D Materials to Bioplastics, meet the 11 disruptive startups poised to transform
industries with INAM's support.
(Berlin, 08/05/2023) INAM - The Innovation Network for Advanced Materials is proud to announce the selection of eleven remarkable startups for the 2023 AdMaCom accelerator program. These startups, specialising in various advanced materials and technologies, have been carefully chosen from over 100 applications to join this year's prestigious cohort.
INAM's Managing Director, Oliver Hasse, shared his excitement about this year's cohort: "After a record number of applications from around the world to this year's AdMaCom with a very high level of quality, we are very excited to welcome the finalist startups to the programme and later on to Berlin for the final week. The selection committee had a really difficult task and discussions during the meeting were intense. We are of course happy to share some feedback with those that did not make it in due course."
The Startup Finalists:
Algreen (London, United Kingdom) provides sustainable and biodegradable solutions for the production of polyurethanes, a widely used plastic, to reduce carbon emissions and waste.
Smart Materials (Qormi, Malta) is revolutionising the polyurethane foam market with one-shot production of auxetic foam, outperforming competitors at a lower cost.
Vitropep (Paris, France) creates stable, painless, wasteless injections using a new peptide formulation that allows them to mould peptides into microneedles for intradermal delivery.
Solaga (Berlin, Germany) develops algae biofilms for sustainable energy, water treatment, and air purification. They have a range of products for residential and commercial customers.
N&E Innovations (Singapore) developed Vikang99, a plant-based, sustainable, and non-toxic antimicrobial derived from food waste. Their products include Vi-Mask and C2Plus disinfectants with up to six months' efficacy against coronaviruses.
Acoerela (Singapore) drives chemical innovation in optical probes for research and clinical diagnostics. They focus on life science applications, specifically in exosome detection, with a new, water-soluble organic dye that solves current pain points in lipid nanoparticle research.
3D Architech (Cambridge, USA) is revolutionising metal manufacturing with affordable, high-resolution, and sustainable gel-based 3D printing technology. They solve fundamental metal manufacturing limitations by 3D printing gels first and then transforming them into metals.
Berlin Catalysts (Berlin, Germany) produces customizable supported catalysts for a more sustainable future, offering unprecedented control over materials.
Applied Bioplastics (Austin, USA) is decarbonizing durable plastics using plant fibres, reducing carbon footprint without sacrificing functionality or cost.
Biowerkz (Karlsruhe, Germany) provides sustainable, biobased, and circular materials as an alternative to wood and engineered wood products for construction and furniture industries. Their patent-pending material, NEWood, is developed using only organic waste and mushroom mycelium as a natural binder.
Phantafield (California, USA) is a trailblazing startup that has developed a patented MOCVD system for growing 2D semiconductors (WS2, WSe2) under CMOS backend temperatures (<450C). These revolutionary 2D materials can be integrated with various semiconductor processes with the potential to replace silicon.

About AdMaCom
The Advanced Materials Competition (AdMaCom) is a fast-paced, two-week, equity-free Accelerator Program for startups with novel technologies in Advanced Materials. Organised by the Innovation Network for Advanced Materials (INAM), the program brings together the brightest minds in materials to make the right connections and to gain access to the broad infrastructure that the network is known for.
The 2023 AdMaCom program will be the ninth edition of the accelerator and will take place from 4 - 25 May 2023. Applications for AdMaCom 2023 began in late 2022 and ended in April 2023. Members and experts of INAM evaluated the applicants. Each applicant was given scores based on their ideas, technology, team and market fit which were then evaluated further by the board members of the network. The evaluation period ended in April and concluded with eleven confirmed startup finalists.
